Youth and Teen Dungeons and Dragons
A little about Dungeons & Dragons: D&D is a role-playing game (RPG) that was first published in 1974. It is now in its 5th Edition. Players create their own characters to role-play, and groups of characters are called a “party.” The party engages in adventures in fantasy world settings, leveling up and gaining new skills and spells at the end of an adventure. In our campaigns, we will finish an adventure in a 4 week time period (possibly longer if it is a combined month, like May/June). Party members work together to travel, solve puzzles, battle monsters and foes, and, hopefully, leave their setting better than when they found it. Queen & Rook’s Youth D&D Program focuses on negotiating as a member of a group, interpersonal communication skills, reading and math skills, fantasy world building, empathy, creativity, collaborative storytelling, and safe risk-taking. D&D campaigns are led by a Dungeon Master (DM), who plays all the non-player characters (NPCs) and tells a lot of the story. As DMs in our Youth Program, we choose stories that are child-appropriate and tales that can be solved with negotiation and kindness, in addition to strength.
Teen D&D (Dungeons & Dragons)
Teen D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) is designed for children ages 12 to 16. No experience with D&D or other RPGs is necessary to attend or play. The program will be held on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30pm at The Keep at Queen & Rook Game Cafe, 613 S. 2nd St. 19147.
Teen D&D is free to attend and play; there is a special Teen D&D menu for the teens to order from, details of which will be shared upon registration. Teens do not need parental supervision, but there are a series of forms that must be filled out before your teen’s first session with us – we will share them upon registration.
If you are unsure which program (Youth or Teen) is best for your child, please reach out to us!
Youth D&D (Dungeons & Dragons)
We are so excited to announce our Queen & Rook D&D Membership Program! Memberships are month-to-month and include a session one day a week (Friday, Saturday, Sunday), food, drinks, a dice set (one per semester), and other D&D-related gifts. It is now a drop-off program!
Our D&D program is designed for children ages 7 to 13, with no prior experience with Dungeons & Dragons or role-playing games necessary. Children will have the opportunity to create their own characters, meet new friends, solve puzzles, and battle monsters with the use of magic, cunning, and strength.
Youth D&D will run on Fridays from 6:30-8:30pm, Saturdays 2-4pm, and Sundays 12-2pm and 2:30-4:30pm. There are 9 total sessions across three days; you can pick the session which works best for your schedule.
Our Youth D&D program will take place in both Queen & Rook Game Cafe, 607 S. 2nd St., and The Keep, 613 S. 2nd St, Philadelphia, PA 19147. Drop offs begin 10 minutes before sessions begin, and children should be picked up promptly when their session ends.
Memberships are approximately $100 per month, less if there are fewer than 4 sessions in a month. We are offering an introductory rate of $35 for your very first session (not applicable if you attended Youth D&D before)
